How To Make Barbecue Flounder (In The Oven)

Broiled Flounder Recipe

A barbecue flounder recipe that everyone can enjoy! Don’t worry it’s not spicy. Just 6 ingredients, the flounder fillet and 10 minutes. Dinner is on the table. Today on Throwdown Kitchen we are going to make the most delicious barbecued flounder that I’ve ever had.

Using the word barbecue here may be confusing to fans of authentic southern barbecue. I’m not firing up the kettle pit or smoker. I’m not grilling for hours. Instead, I’m going to use some mild chili sauce and a broiler today to bring a subtle barbecued flavor to our flounder and have dinner ready in 10 minutes.

Barbecued Flounder Fillets

6 ingredients for the sauce and the yellowtail flounder, and you make it in a snap.

In my house we try to commit to a meatless Friday. Fish, vegetables and seafood have become important parts of our weekly menu planning. Probably you all follow similar weekly routines, don’t you? Is Sunday night your Italian or Chinese food night? It’s all good because if that helps you take care of feeding your family with ease than that’s great! Planning is half of the kitchen battle for sure.

How To Make Barbecued Flounder

Broiled Flounder Recipe

For this broiled flounder recipe you will need salted butter, lemon juice, white wine, garlic, fresh parsley, Sriracha sauce and salt and pepper. That’s it, plus the flounder fillets. Just 6 ingredients. The purists will argue that that is 9 ingredients, but I usually don’t count salt and pepper in my ingredient totals.

In a small sauce pan, melt the butter (4 tbsp) over low heat, add the garlic powder (1tsp), lemon juice (2 tbsp), white wine (¼ cup), Sriracha sauce (1 tsp) a pinch of salt and pepper, and the chopped parsley (1 tbsp). Stir to combine and set aside.

If you don’t want to use white wine, then feel free to substitute chicken or vegetable stock.

Under The Broiler

Salt and pepper the flounder fillets on both sides and lay them in a shallow baking dish. Pour the sauce over the fish and place under the broiler for 8 minutes.

Remove the fish fillets from the oven and plate them immediately on warm plates. Spoon the sauce over the fish and then a squeeze of fresh lemon juice over the top of each fillet. Garnish the fish with a slice of lemon and a pinch of fresh chopped parsley.

8 Sides To Serve with Broiled Flounder

If you’re barbecuing, broiling or frying this flounder, don’t forget about the side dishes. Let’s make sure the sides are as easy to make as the flounder. Here are 8 ideas to go with barbecued flounder:

  • Sauteed Baby Spinach
  • Grilled Asparagus
  • Saffron Rice
  • Cilantro Lime Rice
  • Red Potato Salad

Where Did the Flounder Fillets Come From

You should source your fresh fish selection carefully. We often talk about buying local and taking the time to find quality ingredients. When you are talking to the fishmonger, ask questions. Where did this fish come from? Is it wild line caught or farm raised? What was it diet?

These are all good questions and if they don’t have an answer than find another place to shop for fish!

Notes

We like to serve this flounder atop freshly sautéed baby spinach. Try grilled asparagus, potato salad, saffron rice or even roasted spicy green beans.
This recipe works really well with salmon or even red snapper. Barbecue shrimp would be a great variation. A nice platter of still steaming barbecue shrimp coming to the table for everyone to enjoy instead of boring chilled shrimp with cocktail sauce.
