how to make macaroni salad

Plus, it is so easy to make from scratch. Just a few simple ingredients and a couple of hours in the fridge. You’ll have the perfect side dish for barbecues and family dinners.

Old Fashioned Recipe

Some may call this an old-fashioned macaroni salad, but I call it delicious. In this recipe for pasta salad we decided not to go with the Amish version. The Amish version calls for the addition of eggs and mustard. Instead, opting for a Hawaiian mash up recipe we added an abundance of carrots.

Hawaiian Style Macaroni Salad

Hawaiian style macaroni salad accompanies almost every restaurant plate in the Hawaiian islands and is served alongside rice and the main dish.

It’s easy to modify this recipe and add additional ingredients. Many people add red pepper or pimiento into the recipe and, usually crushed onion, just like grandma used to make. But many people have a hard time with the raw onion, and we decided to use a small amount of powdered onion as a substitute for flavor.

We like to top our macaroni salad with Grilled Shrimp or Chipotle Chicken. These additions quickly transform this classic side dish into a featured main course!
