Lawry’s Seasoned Salt Copycat Recipe

seasoned salt ingredients

Chef Bill Snell told me about Seasoning Salt in the 80s. We were barbecuing for a Father’s Day dinner event and I had asked him what kind of rub he used on his ribs. His baby back pork ribs were some of the best ribs I had ever tasted, and I had to know the secret. He simply said, “Season Salt”. I didn’t dig any deeper at the time because most Chef’s guard their secrets closely, and I was blessed to know that he had shared this with me.

I valued Chef Bill’s secret so much that I put Seasoned Salt into my recipe book, and it has become one My 5 must-have spice blends to have on hand, along with Old Bay, Blackening Cajun Spice, Chinese 5 spice powder and Tajin Classico.

It is easy to find in any grocery store or market. Under the name of Lawry’s Seasoned Salt or Morton’s. However, it is so easy to make at home with a few simple ingredients found in your spice cabinet. Used to season the dry-aged prime ribs of beef before slow roasting in the oven, the blend is now used commonly on barbecue, chicken, steaks, fish, chips and seafood.
