Have you ever heard of Casey’s sausage breakfast pizza? No. That’s ok, it’s a Midwest thing. Throwdown Kitchen’s sausage breakfast pizza recipe is going to challenge Casey’s, so not to worry.
Casey’s Sausage Breakfast Pizza Review
Casey’s is a chain of over 2,000 store that operate though the Midwest. They have built a quite a reputation for fast and friendly service. In addition to gas, they have a great menu line up of sandwiches and convenience items. But, they really make some good pizza.
Casey’s Pizzas are made from scratch with fresh whole milk mozzarella, hand cut veggies and hand made dough. So, what’s not to like? Sounds like almost any pizza parlor in the United States.
Right away the sausage sings. How good could gas station pizza be? The cheese sauce is actually pretty good. The pizza tastes as good as any breakfast sandwich you might buy or make at home. The bottom of the crust is perfect. Not doughy, more of a flat bread pizza. Make sure you eat it while it’s hot.
We do recommend the Casey’s breakfast pizza if you are on the road and need gas and a foodie fill up!
How To Make Casey’s Sausage Pizza At Home
Casey’s Sausage Breakfast Pizza recipe starts with cheese sauce or sausage gravy and is topped with scrambled eggs, breakfast sausage, mozzarella and cheddar cheese. Pretty simple.
Our Throwdown Kitchen recipe for a sausage breakfast pizza is going to take this breakfast pie to the next level. We’ll make some Gordon Ramsay style scrambled eggs to sit atop the Boboli pizza crust. Then make some maple breakfast sausage and follow with a scratch country cream gravy to tie that all together.
But wait, we’re not done yet with this sausage breakfast pizza recipe. How about some spinach, tomatoes, mozzarella and Cheddar to top it all off? I say yes to plenty of pizza toppings in this case. After all, breakfast is the most important meal of the day!
What Do You Need To Make A Sausage Breakfast Pizza
For this recipe, you will need Prepared Pizza Crust, Eggs, Breakfast Sausage, Mozzarella Cheese, Cheddar Cheese, Grape Tomatoes, Spinach, Milk, Butter, Flour, Heavy Cream, Chives, Salt and Pepper.
How To Make Sausage Breakfast Pizza
The sausage breakfast pizza recipe is really only about 5 important things. Sausage. Cream Gravy. Scrambled Eggs. Cheese and Pizza Crust. I may be writing in detail on the subject, but you can easily put this recipe together in 15 minutes.
This recipe for sausage breakfast pizza is even easier to make with a store bough breakfast sausage, and I’m particularly fond of Jimmy Deans Original country sausage. It has a nice balance of flavors that seem to include sage and rosemary with red pepper, salt and black pepper.
How To Make A Quick Breakfast Sausage
For our sausage breakfast pizza recipe, we decided to make a quick pan fry breakfast sausage. It’s effortless to do. To make breakfast sausage, mix ground pork, (1/2 pound), ground sage (1/4 tsp) rosemary (1/4 tsp), Kosher salt (1/2 tsp) and black pepper (1/2 tsp). That’s it, 5 simple ingredients. Now, suppose you want to kick this breakfast sausage up a notch?
Add to your sausage mix, apple cider vinegar (1 tsp), maple syrup (1 tsp) and a pinch of red pepper flakes. Now you have got yourself a great little breakfast sausage in the making. If you don’t have maple syrup, you can use pancake syrup, corn syrup or sugar.
Heat a frying pan over medium high heat and then fry this mix with a teaspoon of grapeseed oil. Cook the sausage for 5 to 6 minutes and then set it aside to go on your pizza. I tried not to break the sausage up too much because I like to see a few larger pieces of sausage on the pizza.
How To Make Cream Gravy
You’ll need 3 ingredients plus salt and pepper to make cream gravy. To make cream gravy, melt butter (1 tbsp) over medium heat and add all-purpose flour (1 tbsp) and whisk until combined. Bring the heat to medium high and slowly add whole milk (1 cup). Bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce the heat. Whisk the cream sauce until no lumps remain, and add a pinch of salt and freshly cracked black pepper.
Another fantastic sauce choice on this breakfast pizza is pesto. Have a look at this keto friendly pesto from Cooking Chat. Trust me, this pesto sauce one is fabulous on a pizza! You could also go as far as making an Alfredo sauce with Parmesan, butter and cream. It’s a pretty simple recipe, and our friends over at Josie and Nina have a great one.
Sausage Breakfast Pizza Toppings
Next, make the scrambled eggs for the breakfast pizza. Crack the fresh eggs (6 large) into a bowl and add heavy cream (1 tbsp), chives (1 tbsp), and a pinch of salt and pepper. Whisk the eggs until nicely combined and no white of the egg is visible.
Now, preheat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add butter (2 tbsp). Pour the eggs into the fry pan and then begin stirring the egg mixture with a rubber spatula. Keep stirring as the eggs begin to set, Gently push the eggs to the center of the pan. Continue cooking the eggs, stirring and pushing until the eggs are almost done. Remove them from the heat. It should only take 3 to 4 minutes.
The eggs are going to finish cooking on the pizza, and we really want them to remain soft, light and fluffy. So take them off the heat before you think they are done.
Scrambled Eggs are really one of my favorite morning meals. I like the eggs to be soft and creamy but cooked, though, so I always add heavy cream to the scramble egg mixture. If I have a little cheese leftover, I’ll shred that and toss it into the eggs a minute before they are done.
Some Assembly Required For Our Breakfast Pizza Recipe
Place the prepared pizza crust on a baking tray and spread the country white cream sauce (1 cup) all over the surface. Cover the cream sauce with the scrambled eggs, breakfast sausage, spinach (1 cup), grape tomatoes (1 cup), mozzarella cheese (1/2 cup), and cheddar cheese (1/2 cup).
Breakfast Pizza Toppings
The beauty of this breakfast pizza recipe is the infinite variety of available pizza toppings. The spinach and tomatoes just happen to be on my favorites list and are almost always in the produce section of my refrigerator. But you could try any number of things. Bacon immediately springs to mind.
We had quite a debate about the cheese for our breakfast pizza, settling on mozzarella and cheddar. I thought I had made a strong case for crumbled goat cheese with some fresh slices of buffalo mozzarella, but that was going to require a trip to the store and we eventually (prudently) decided on what was in house.
Oven Baked Breakfast Pizza
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Slide the breakfast pizza into the oven and cook for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and let the pizza cool for 3 minutes before slicing. Enjoy!

I never met a pizza I didn’t like, and this breakfast pizza was high on the wow factor. The Boboli crust made things easy and ended up being a worthy crust for all the ingredients. The cream sauce provided nostalgia to the pie and provided extra moisture to keep the eggs creamy.
The eggs stayed creamy and fluffy thanks to the heavy cream, and also had a nice undertone of chives and black pepper. I wouldn’t skimp on the black pepper, it really provides a lift to the breakfast pizza.
The sausage was understated and tasted of caramelized pork with a hint of sage, maple and rosemary. The splash of apple cider vinegar gave it a nice pop. Jeannette said that this pizza was one of the best I ever made. I can’t complain about that, can I? I think a Bloody Mary would go really well with this breakfast pizza, so I’m off to start another recipe.
